“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling has announced that a new Potter-themed stage play will open in London’s West End next year.
Dubbed “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” it will tell the ‘untold part’ of the boy wizard’s story which mostly revolves around the lives of his murdered parents. Yet Rowling insists this is not a prequel.
Rowling made the announcement today on the 18th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the series. She also preemptively answered one obvious question, explaining why this story is not a new novel: “I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.”
The project is said to be a collaboration between Rowling, writer Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, with the latter also directing the play. British singer Imogen Heap will provide the music.
