Following the sudden cancellation of its smash hit revived comedy “Roseanne” in the wake of racially insensitive tweets by its star Roseanne Barr, ABC has found a way to move forward with the original cast, creators and likely crew minus Barr. The answer? “The Conners”.
ABC and executive producer Tom Werner are officially moving forward with the spinoff series, handing out a ten episode straight to series order which will be a multi-camera comedy that will premiere in the Fall.
The story will follow the Conner family who, after a sudden turn of events, are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman will star.
Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series, but will retain an executive producer credit under union rules. Barr will also retain all rights to her Roseanne Conner character and any future spinoffs beyond The Conners or any future reboots of the original.
Additional cast members and a premiere date will be announced at a later date. The series will take over the Tuesdays at 8 pm time slot which “Roseanne” held.
