Rosa Salazar (“The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” “Insurgent: The Divergent Series”) has reportedly scored the lead role in the live-action film adaptation of the popular Japanese manga “Battle Angel Alita” at 20th Century Fox.
Set in the 26th century, Salazar plays an amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard and put back together without a memory of her past life but with an advanced knowledge of marital arts. She soon becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals.
James Cameron will produce and Robert Rodriguez will direct the project which was originally slated to be helmed by Cameron before his “Avatar” sequel commitments took his attention. The production has yet to seta start date but will have a budget in the $175-200 million range.
