Rosa Salazar (“Insurgent,” “American Horror Story”) has closed a deal to join the cast of the young adult novel adaptation “Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” for 20th Century Fox, Temple Hill Entertainment and the Gotham Group.
The first film followed a group of young men, and one woman (Kaya Scoledario), escaping their confinement within a giant deadly maze. In the second film, they’re now in a sun scorched wasteland.
Pre-production on the ‘Maze’ sequel is already underway, with leading man Dylan O’Brien returning. Salazar will play Brenda, the lone female amongst another group of teens who ends up paired with O’Brien’s character when both end up on the run in tunnels underneath a city.
“Game of Thrones” star Aidan Gillen was cast as the villain the other day. Wes Ball returns to helm the follow-up which is due for release next September.
