Ronan Not Set, Mountain Needed For “Hobbit”

Speaking at this weekend’s Irish Film and Television Awards, actress Saoirse Ronan said that despite reports and comments from casting director Ros Hubbard, she’s not yet locked for the Tolkien adaptation.

“No, nothing has actually been confirmed yet. I’d love to get a role in The Hobbit. I think everybody in the world would like a role in The Hobbit” she told The Irish Times.

Meanwhile reports have emerged in the New Zealand press (via The NZ Herald) that Peter Jackson has been refused permission to shoot in and around Mt. Ngauruhoe, the mountain served as Mt. Doom in the ‘Rings’ trilogy, because the area has been declared sacred.

Jackson recently flew to Queenstown to inspect Mt. Taranaki and the Southern Alps as a potential alternative.
