Romanek Tipped To Direct “Lost Symbol”

Mark Romanek (“Never Let Me Go,” “One Hour Photo”) has emerged as frontrunner to direct the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s best-selling novel”The Lost Symbol” for Sony Pictures says Deadline.

The third book and film to feature symbologist Robert Langdon following “Angels & Demons” and “The Da Vinci Code”, the story is set around Washington DC where the head of the Smithsonian Institute has been kidnapped and Langdon gets mixed up in a tale blending the Freemasons, Noetic Science and a killer tattooed from head to toe.

Ron Howard, who helmed the first two films, opted out of directing this one and will instead produce with Brian Grazer. Tom Hanks, who played Langdon in the first two films, is expected to reprise the role but no commitment has been made at this point.
