Streaming media player company Roku has launched a new channel on its platform Wednesday – ‘The Roku Channel’.
The channel comes ahead of the company’s IPO and promises access to several hundred films – marking their first time licensing movies from Hollywood studios on such a scale.
Videos will be accompanied by advertising with ad load said to be about half of that of traditional TV. Ads and other licensing fees now make up for 41% of the company’s revenue.
The new channel will also feature videos from American Classics, Fandor, FilmRise, Nosey, OVGuide, Popcornflix, Vidmark, and YuYu.
