“Rogue One” Won’t Do “Force Awakens” Money

During his presentation at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia event this week, Disney chief Bob Iger revealed he had just met with LucasFilm head Kathleen Kennedy to map out “Star Wars” movies from 2021 and beyond.

He also confirmed he had recently seen a rough cut of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which marks the first standalone film in the series: “It’s really interesting in terms of ‘Star Wars’ storytelling. ‘Star Wars’ has only been told as a saga, and this is a moment in time … we love what we’ve seen.”

He also stressed that ‘Rogue One’ isn’t expected to match the nearly $2.1 billion global box-office of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”: “We never felt it would do the level that ‘Force Awakens’ did, [even though] the level of interest is as high as it was for ‘Force Awakens.'”

The comments come as Star Wars News Net have assembled enough anecdotal information to suggest that Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII” is already undergoing additional shooting at this moment in Croatia.

That is rumored to be the reason why Carrie Fisher is cutting her visit to New York Comic Con short next month with the convention’s Instagram account saying: “We’re sorry to announce that due to #StarWars production, Carrie Fisher will only be at #NYCC on Sunday.”
