With the release of the trailer for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” last week, one fan theory suddenly blossomed and scored a lot of traction on social media.
That theory was that Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso character, the lead of this spin-off, would be the mother of Daisy Ridley’s Rey character from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. The timelines of events in both films indicate that though unlikely, it would not be impossible.
Speaking with MTV this weekend though, Ridley shot down the theory, saying: “I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom.”
Ridley also says all the speculation about Rey’s parentage is something people are putting too much thought into as, unlike say “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, Rey’s parentage isn’t a series-long story thread: “I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important, because I don’t really think it is.
Speaking of “Rogue One,” Spencer Wilding has reportedly scored the physical role of Darth Vader in the upcoming spin-off says SR. He takes over the famous suit from David Prowse in the original trilogy and Gene Bryant in ‘Revenge of the Sith’, and like them apparently read the character’s lines on set. In post-production he’ll likely be overdubbed by James Earl Jones.
The 6’7 actor has played the likes of an Ice Warrior and a Minotaur on “Doctor Who,” a White Walker on “Game of Thrones,” and the walkman-stealing prison guard in “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” opens December 16th.
