A new survey conduced by online ticketing service Fandango has revealed that “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is the most anticipated movie of 2016 according to those who participated.
Audiences polled during the final weeks of December about the films and roles in the coming year they were most keen to check out, the “Star Wars” spin-off film came in first just ahead of the likes of “Finding Dory” in second place and the next Jason Bourne film in fourth place.
In a vote that will get comic book fans riled up, DC’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” came in third and ahead of Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” in fifth. Rounding out the top ten were “Star Trek Beyond,” “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Zoolander No. 2,” and Disney’s “The Jungle Book”.
Also intriguing was that a separate question revealed that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” scored the title of ‘most anticipated comic character debuting in a major role’. She beat out Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).
In regards to more general performances, keenly anticipated roles in films this year include Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones in “Ghostbusters”, Tom Holland and Scarlett Johansson in “Captain America: Civil War,” Will Smith and Karen Fukuhara in “Suicide Squad,” Emily Blunt in “The Girl on the Train,” Jennifer Lawrence and Sophie Turner in “X-Men: Apocalypse” and Riz Ahmed in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
