“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” opens overseas this coming Wednesday ahead of its States-side run beginning Thursday night and current estimates peg it and nabbing between $280-350 million worldwide between Wednesday and Sunday.
That’s understandably behind last year’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but would still put it in an elite club of films to open above $300 million worldwide. Two that did so this year were “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” ($422.5m) and “Captain America: Civil War” ($379.5m).
In North America alone, industry projections currently lie between $140-150 million across 4,100-plus screens. The film has its world premiere tonight in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theater with road closures for days on either end.
