The long-running Tom Cruise franchise is going to have to push hard on the TV promotional front it would seem for its newest outing.
Two weeks out from release, tracking figures for Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” indicate the action spy thriller is headed towards a roughly $40 million opening weekend. That’s ahead of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” which opened to $29.8 million, but behind the first three films in the series.
The big question is will the film have ‘Ghost Protocol’ style legs? Rave reviews from critics and audience polls meant that movie had staying power and ended up with nearly $210 million in the U.S. as part of a whopping $694.7 million haul around the world.
The hope is ‘Rogue Nation’, which should reap the benefit of the good will towards ‘Ghost Protocol,’ will do the same and overseas numbers could compensate for any shortfall States-side.
