Christopher McQuarrie’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” opened on Thursday night and pulled in $4 million for its preview shows from 8pm.
That gross is comparable to “Mad Max: Fury Road’ with $3.7 million and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” with $4.1 million, and the film is said to be on pace to open to $40 million over the weekend and could rise as high as $50 million.
The film has also scored stellar reviews that are essentially equal best of the franchise with the previous film ‘Ghost Protocol’. ‘Rogue’ scored a 93% (7.6/10) on Rotten Tomatoes which is almost exactly the same as the 93% (7.7/10) for ‘Ghost’, on Metacritic ‘Rogue’ has scored 75/100 to the 73/100 for ‘Ghost’.
The previous film in the series scored just under $700 million worldwide, how close ‘Rogue’ will get to that is uncertain at this point.
