“Rocketman” helmer Dexter Fletcher is set to direct the monster movie “Renfield” at Universal Pictures at Skybound Entertainment.
The story will center around the character R.M. Renfield, an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions but is actually a servant of the Transylvanian vampire Count Dracula.
A figure in Bram Stoker’s original novel, the role has been played by the likes of Dwight Frye, Tom Waits, Peter MacNicol and Samuel Barnett on screen.
This take is based on an original pitch from “The Walking Dead” author Robert Kirkman and is said to potentially be a contemporary take. Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty”) penned the script while Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst produce.
