Channing Tatum is officially signed on to star in and produce, while “RoboCop” writer Joshua Zetumer is set to pen the screenplay for the upcoming “X-Men” spin-off feature about everyone’s favorite Cajun mutant Gambit.
Marvel comics writer Chris Claremont, who co-created the character back in 1990, has penned a treatment upon which Zetumer will base the script. Story details are bing kept confidential.
In the comics, Gambit is also known as Remy LeBeau and is able to charge matter with an explosive kinetic energy – causing objects to explode on impact. Taylor Kitsch played the role in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
The news comes almost half a year after producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed long-swirling rumors about “Magic Mike” actor Tatum playing the role. Reid Carolin and Simon Kinberg will also produce.
No word on a release date, but it will certainly be sometime after “X-Men: Apocalypse” which opens May 27th 2016.
