Rumors about David Ayer’s feature about the DC Comics supervillain team-up title “Suicide Squad” were floating around for some time before Warner Bros. Pictures made its big announcement regarding its DC Comics-based film slate the other month.
One of the oldest rumors from earlier this year was that former “Neighbours” soap star and “The Wolf of Wall Street” scene stealer Margot Robbie was up for the role of Harley Quinn in the project.
Collider now says that that according to reliable sources, Robbie “will play Harley Quinn” in the film and character is an integral part of the project. No further information was given about the reliability of the source, though it sounds solid enough.
In other news, former “The Walking Dead” star Jon Bernthal appeared at the Wizard World Tulsa Comic Con over the weekend where he was asked in a Q&A if he would be a part of the “Suicide Squad” film. It’s not an unexpected conclusion to reach. Bernthal just worked with Ayer on the WW2 tank film “Fury,” and he worked alongside Robbie in “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
According to Renegade Cinema, Bernthal responded “I can’t talk about that right now.” The moderator then joked about him dodging the question, after which the site says “[Bernthal] went into repair mode and said that he didn’t mean it like that and that he loved working with David Ayer and would like to work with him in the future. However, he never denied that he was up for a role and never mentioned it again.”
