Rob Lowe is set to both direct and star in a gender-swapped remake of iconic 1956 horror film “The Bad Seed” for Lifetime. Negotiations are underway with rights holders Warner Bros. Pictures for the project.
The lead role will remain female, but the gender of the parent is being switched up. Nancy Kelly scored an Oscar nomination for her work in the original as the mother of a young daughter who is evil. That’s being changed to a single father with Lowe in the role.
In the story, a terrible event happens the young Emma’s school and her father (Lowe) has to question everything he knows about her. Can he keep her involvement a secret or will he have to stop her from harming others?
Barbara Marshall (“Wish Upon”) will pen the new take based on both the original film and the William Marsh novel source material. Casting is currently underway and production is looking at a start in early 2018.
