RKO Pictures is planning a remake of the 1936 road comedy “Love on a Bet” says The Hollywood Reporter.
The original Depression-era comedy followed a man who, in order to raise money for a play, makes a bet with a rich uncle that he can begin a journey in New York’s Central Park with nothing but his underwear and end up in California with a suit, $100 and a fiancee.
The new version will be edgier, play up both the romance and cross country nature of the story, and start the guy off in “a lot less than his underwear” according to a studio spokesperson.
Dave Punch is writing the script. Steve Carr (“Dr. Dolittle 2,” “Are We Done Yet?”) directs the new version which Ted Hartley, Carr, Aaron Ray and Jason Taragan are producing.
Shooting kicks off next year.
