Three months after the unexpected death of actor Luke Perry, “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has taken to Twitter to reveal that the upcoming fourth season premiere episode of the hit teen drama will be a special tribute to Perry.
Perry portrayed the role of Archie Andrews’ father, Fred Andrews, in the first three seasons of the series. Perry passed away at age 52 from complications of a stroke in early March, right as the final episodes of the third season were being filmed.
As a result, it was too late to adjust the episode storylines and so his absence was worked around. With the fourth season premiere, the episode will be titled “In Memoriam” and will deal with the actor’s passing. Gabriel Correa will direct the episode and of it Aguirre-Sacasa said this:
“Probably the most important episode of #Riverdale we’ll do this year, if not ever. A tribute to our fallen friend. Thankful for this opportunity to honor Luke & Fred.”
KJ Apa stars as Archie Andrews alongside Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom. Mark Consuelos, Casey Cott, Skeet Ulrich, Madchen Amick, and Vanessa Morgan also star.
The season premiere is scheduled to air on October 9th.
