Riseborough Visits Greene’s “Brighton Rock”

British actress Andrea Riseborough (“Happy-Go-Lucky,” TV’s “Party Animals”) has scored the female lead role in “Brighton Rock” for BBC Films and Optimum Releasing says The Hollywood Reporter.

An adaptation of the novel by author Graham Greene (“The Quiet American”), the story centers on a small-time gangster (Sam Riley) who kills a rival and finds his life in turmoil as he faces blackmail threats from a waitress (Riseborough) who knows about the murder.

Riley replaces Carey Mulligan, who had been attached to the role. Richard Attenborough directed a previous film version of the novel back in 1947.

“28 Weeks Later” writer Rowan Joffe makes his directorial debut on the project which aims to begin shooting later this year in the UK.
