Ripper Street Tops British TV Poll

Despite recently being cancelled, the BBC period crime-drama “Ripper Street” has been voted the best TV show on British TV in 2013 via a user poll in the popular magazine Radio Times.

More than 7,500 readers participated in the poll with more than 35% of all votes this year going to the Whitechapel-set period crime drama, a surge thought to be be in protest against the show’s cancelation.

The Matthew Macfadyen-led series was pulled this year amid weak ratings. But the groundswell of fan support for the show now has online streaming firms reportedly looking at playing a role in potentially reviving it.

The Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill-led crime series “Peaky Blinders” came in second in the poll with 18.5%. Also in the the top ten were “Doctor Who,” “Broadchurch,” “Breaking Bad,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Walking Dead,” “Last Tango in Halifax,” “The Fall” and the telemovie “An Adventure in Space and Time”.
