Eduardo Paes, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, is so determined to get filmmaker Woody Allen to shoot in his city that he’s made a quite amazing overture towards the filmmaker.
In the Sunday edition of the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Paes says his administration would gladly foot 100% of the filmmaker’s production costs.
Paes says: “I really want him to come! I did everything. I’ve talked to his sister, I’ve send him a plane ticket through [architect Santiago] Calatrava, his neighbor in New York, and I would pay anything for him to come shoot here.”
In 2010, Rio announced that they had negotiations with Allen that had been successful, a report that Allen’s publicist later denied.
