Ridley On Rey’s Lineage In “Episode VIII”

In the wake of the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” one of the most talked about questions amongst the fans was that of Rey’s lineage – specifically who are her parents?

The “Star Wars” films have so far been built around the Skywalker family and their connection with the Force, and with Rey seemingly having innate abilities with the mystical power there’s been no shortage of speculation regarding how she was born and who were the parents that left her behind on Jakku.

While Daisy Ridley isn’t ready to say who Rey’s family is, she does suggest that the truth about Rey’s parentage will be revealed in Rian Johnson’s already shot “Star Wars Episode VIII” which is currently in the midst of editing and a long post-production schedule. Vulture asked Ridley if Rey is related to Obi-Wan Kenobi and she responded: “We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question.”

Another theory is that Rogue One’s Jyn Erso might be the mother of Rey, but Ridley effectively shoots down that fan theory: “I mean, I think historically it wouldn’t work, because she is… Darth Vader is there… so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma. I mean, it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away.”

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” will hit cinemas December next year.
