Ricky Gervais will voice the character of Mole in the upcoming independent live-action/animatronic feature “The Wind in the Willows” for RG Entertainment reports Variety.
The story follows “the anthropomorphised Mole as he ventures out from his underground home for the first time and encounters many a strange creature, including the water-loving Rat; the knowledgeable but curmudgeonly Badger; and the rich, jovial, but utterly foolish Toad.”
Bill Marsilii (“Deja Vu”) penned this $30 million adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s 1908 literary classic and Ray Griggs is directing. Weta will be handling the visual effects with pre-production beginning this year in New Zealand.
‘Willows’ has been adapted numerous times for television and film. A Ranknin/Bass 1987 animated feature, a film adaptation in 1996 featuring much of the Monty Python gang, and a BBC TV movie adaptation in 2006. The most famous was a 52 episodes TV series done with stop-motion animation that ran from 1984-1990.
