Richard Kelly Talks Tales & Beyond

Hot (in more ways than one) director Richard Kelly indicates on his official blog that he’s still finishing up some effects for “Southland Tales”. Additional funding is required to complete them and he is seeking it now.

He adds that a “release date has not been decided upon, as the distribution plans are still in the works”.

Most cryptically though, the “Donnie Darko” helmer says he’s been hired by Fox to write a big action film for a famous director.

The project? “A remake of a film released in 1971…I’ve already started writing… and will have it finished in the next 9-10 weeks” says Kelly.

What that remake is though is unsure, Kelly only denying claims that it is “The French Connection”. The most likely candidate is the thriller “Vanishing Point”.

Other high profile 1971 films include “A Clockwork Orange,” “The Andromeda Strain,” “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” “Carnal Knowledge,” “Dirty Harry,” “Duel,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Get Carter,” “Harold and Maude,” “The Last Picture Show,” “The Omega Man,” “Shaft,” “Straw Dogs,” “THX-1138”, “Willard,” and “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”.
