Rian Johnson has kept mum about “Star Wars Episode VIII” to date. Now though, as part of a 2017 preview in USA Today, Johnson has spoken a little more about what we can expect from the ‘Force Awakens’ sequel.
First up he confirms the film picks up right after the events of the previous film: “I don’t want to skip ahead two years. I want to see the very next moment of what happens.”
Indeed, the relationship between Luke and Rey will be “a large part of the movie,” as will explaining why Luke is on the planet Ahch-to and what he intends to do now.
Rey meanwhile will have her own journey: “Part of what’s she’s dealing with is the realization that she has this power and this gift. She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”
In related news, Making Star Wars has posted a report indicating Luke’s planet will be home to a species of avian creatures akin to the convorees from the animated series “The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels”. Also Kylo Ren will be getting his own specialised TIE fighter with a design akin to Vader’s seen in the original 1977 film.
Finally Star Wars News Net has published a report indicating that Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo “Star Wars” feature will be partly filmed on the island of Fuerteventerua in the Canary Islands.
