Ryan Reynolds recently spoke with The Los Angeles Times and confirmed he’s still very much attached to the superhero spin-off film “Deadpool”.
One of the big reasons is that it goes in a “different direction” than a regular superhero film. “It’s a nasty piece of work. It’s just based in so much emotional filth, completely. It’s like Barfly if it were a superhero movie. It sort of treads into the world of an emotionally damaged person” says Reynolds of his character.
A heinous act right near the start of the film will apparently demonstrate the character’s edge – “With Deadpool, early on you have to establish that moral flexibility. There’s a gamble to it – you’re going to lose a few people right at the beginning but you take the gamble and know that eventually you’re going to win them back.”
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Zombieland”) penned the script but no director is yet in place (Robert Rodriguez is still reportedly interested). The film is targeting a 2012 release.
