Reynolds on Lantern, Renner On Hawkeye

Ryan Reynolds tells MTV News that unlike some other superhero movies, much of the ‘Lantern’ origin story will be gotten over and done with quickly.

“It is [an origin story] to a certain degree, but it’s not a labored origin story, where the movie [truly] begins in the third act… We find out Hal is the guy fairly early on, and the adventure begins” says Reynolds.

Despite the presence of action and major special effects, Reynolds admits much of the film’s best moments are “moments where the guy’s not in the suit”.

Meanwhile Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”) was asked at last night’s Independent Film Gotham Awards about the online chatter linking him to the role of Hawkeye in Marvel Studios’ “The Avengers” film that started last week when a magazine interview was posted online.

Renner tells Superhero Hype that “I haven’t heard anything since I talked to them three weeks ago. The last I knew is that they still have to find their director for ‘The Avengers,’ that’s where he’s really going to show up. They were just talking, ‘Like maybe we should consider maybe hiring Hawkeye now’ but there’s no director on ‘Avengers’ so they don’t really want to force-feed the director, ‘Here’s the whole cast.’ It’s a big role so they didn’t want to do that to the director, so I think they might wait. I know they’re interested, I’m interested, so we’ll see if it works out.”
