A great concept and a good trailer lured me into this movie - sadly that's all there is to it. This is not a comedy folks, its a romantic drama with occasional flashes of low-brow comedy. In terms of romance it works with Hunt looking gorgeous and the pair sharing some good chemistry.
In terms of comedy it succeeds only some of the time - the laughs are short and not particularly funny, with 90% of the best ones ruined in the trailer. Most annoyingly all the jokes are very safe - here was a chance to do some really boundary pushing humour but sadly everything's very PC.
The third element is quite a lot of drama ranging from Gibson's bratty daughter to a depressed young office worker - these subplots are fine in themseves but just don't gel with this movie. Most of the supporting cast do decent jobs, Alda is disappointing though Midler's cameo is fun.
The running time is also a good 20-30 minutes too long. Its fine if you want something light and non-threatening, but the concept could've been done in a way that is so much better.
