Those going into this Rob Schneider film who've seen the ads know exactly what to expect - and your right, this follows the Deuce Bigalow mold to a tee. As a comic lead Schneider is great because he relies on his 'everyday joe' style about him and it works - you can't help but sympathise with the guy who is the brunt of all the jokes and takes them well.
Colleen Haskell is a surprisingly refreshing love interest with Hollywood looks but a very natural presence about her which again helps with that 'everyday' feel (she's just so darn cute & cuddly isn't she!!). In fact performance wise its surprising how solid a movie this is, however its the script and gags where things get somewhat curious. When the main point of jokes is animals, there's absolutely no doubt that the majority of said jokes are going to have some beastiality themes and for the most part its quite funny - but it does cross the line at certain .
The story is pretty non-existent and an element involving a 'wild animal attack' seems tacked on, its fascinating how many comedy writers these days forget you can do a movie with both great laughs and a solid plot (eg. "A Fish Called Wanda"). In any case this is what you'd expect - there's one or two good laughs, a few snickers and a quite a few misfires. Is likable but not something to get excited about and best left for video.
