For every good ‘reboot’ there seems to be as many if not more bad ones. Superb refreshers like “Batman Begins,” “Star Trek” and “Casino Royale” help take the pain out of poor quality restarters such as Steve Martin’s “Pink Panther” films, Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” and the ultimately pointless “Incredible Hulk”.
Now, according to Bloody Disgusting, Screen Gems is planning to do one for one of its cash cows in recent years – “Resident Evil”.
Tentatively titled “Resident Evil Begins”, the story essentially sounds like a remake (rather than a reimagining) of the first film with a special military unit fighting a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.
The project however would not begin production until after the release of “Resident Evil: Afterlife”, the 3D fourth entry in the current series due for release late next Summer.
