Renner Shoots Down Casting Rumours

Rising actor Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker,” “S.W.A.T.”) has been linked to any number of projects in recent times now that he’s being pegged as a future action star with key roles in “Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol” and “The Avengers”. This week the actor has shot down most of the speculation during press rounds.

First up he tells MTV News that reports of him taking over Kurt Russell’s iconic Snake Plissken role in the remake of the 80’s cult classic “Escape From New York” are unfounded. “No, there’s no truth to that. Someone told me about it and then I saw it online. I was like, ‘That’s news to me as well.’ I didn’t know anything about it” says Renner.

Next up, he tells Thompson On Hollywood that he is linked to Tommy Wirkola’s “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” project, but it’s still way too early to tell – “it’s an idea. I don’t know what’s going to happen with it.”

He was also linked to Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled Scientology film which failed to get going earlier this year. Of Anderson, Renner says “[He’s] swimming out there somewhere, probably typing behind a computer… that guy is genius. If he was directing the phone book I’d be in it.”
