Quite a few release date announcements this past week for some big films opening later this year and in 2012.
Three dramas are now set for late 2011 releases and look to be positioning themselves as potential awards candidates. Most likely to succeed is Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar” biopic with Leonardo Di Caprio, that film is now hovering around a release sometime in October.
Stephen Daldry’s adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock is lining itself up for a release sometime in December, while Madonna’s “W.E.” has been locked in for a limited release on December 9th by The Weinstein Company.
Onto more commercially-oriented films and Paul W.S. Anderson’s “The Three Musketeers in 3D” has been delayed a week and will now open October 21st.
Lionsgate has announced that “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D” will hit October 5th 2012, a few weeks before Dimension Films will open “Halloween 3D” on October 26th 2012.
Steven Soderbergh’s pandemic thriller “Contagion” has been moved up over a month and will now open September 9th 2011, while the just announced Roland Emmerich epic “Singularity” has already set a release date – May 17th 2013.
