Reed Morano To Helm “Diary” Tale

Emmy-winning “The Handmaid’s Tale” director Reed Morano is in talks to helm “Keeper of the Diary” for Fox Searchlight.

The story deals with Otto Frank’s quest to find a publisher for the diary his daughter, Anne, kept while in hiding from the Nazis in the World War II-era Netherlands.

He finds an ally in Doubleday junior editor Barbara Zimmerman, who later co-founded and co-edited The New York Review of Books. Evan Kilgore and Samuel Franco penned the script.

Matti Leshem and Lynn Harris are set to produce. Morano replaces Kenneth Branagh who was previously in talks to direct and star.

Morano’s most recent film, “The Rhythm Section,” suspended production while star Blake Lively recuperated from a major hand injury sustained during a stunt.
