Redford, Blanchett-Led “Truth” Hits October

Sony Pictures Classics has released the first photo from “Truth,” the true story drama which they’ve set an October 16th release date for. The date puts the film squarely in awards season and could see Cate Blanchett competing against herself for her work in Todd Haynes’ “Carol”.

The film deals with how CBS Producer Mary Mapes (Cate Blanchett) and Dan Rather (Robert Redford) uncovered that a sitting U.S. president may have been AWOL from the U.S. National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War.

When the story blew up in their face, the ensuing scandal ruined Rather’s career and almost took down all of CBS News in the process. James Vanderbilt penned the script and makes his directorial debut on the project.
