Actress Rebel Wilson and her Camp Sugar production company has optioned the screen rights to the Image Comics title “Crowded” with plans for her to star in and produce a feature adaptation with the help of Oni Entertainment.
Christopher Sebela’s comic is set in a near future where the world’s economy is entirely job sharing and apps and a crowdfunding platform that funds assassinations named Reapr is all the rage.
The story is set in motion when a woman named Charlie, leading a quiet normal life, finds her world upside down when she suddenly becomes a target on Reapr, with a multimillion-dollar bounty. She hires the only person she is able to afford: Vita, the lowest-rated bodyguard on the Dfend app.
The two then have to work together to take down the aspirational assassins and find out who wants Charlie dead before the campaign’s one month period concludes or they are killed, whichever comes first.
Sebela will act as a consulting producer on the project with a writer currently being sought. Wilson is currently in Prague shooting Taika Waititi’s Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit”.
