In one of the least surprising secrets in the film world this week, Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” is set to have its world premiere at South by Southwest on Sunday night.
The Warner Bros. release was widely speculated to be this year’s secret screening at the Austin film festival, with the announcement made official today.
“Ready Player One” is based on a 2011 novel by Cline that is set in a dystopian future, where the characters spend most of their lives on a virtual-reality system named OASIS.
Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T. J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance co-star in the film which hits cinemas March 29th. Previous ‘secret screenings’ at SXSW in year’s past have included “Furious 7,” “Baby Driver” and “Atomic Blonde”.
