Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” looks to be hitting its projections for the four-day holiday weekend with estimates now pegging it as scoring $53 million by weekend’s end.
The virtual reality fantasy holds an A- CinemaScore and 76% on Rotten Tomatoes and overseas has earned a further $128 million since Tuesday – the worldwide total coming up to an estimated $181.2 million by end of today.
“Tyler Perry’s Acrimony” scored second place for the weekend with $17 million, and “Black Panther” is still doing robust business in third place with $11 million. The Marvel title crossed the $650 million domestic mark and is now the fifth-highest grossing release in the U.S. of all time with it likely to pass both “Jurassic World” and “Titanic” in the next week or so.
Christian drama stayed firm in fourth for its second weekend with $10.5 million, far better than the two other faith-based dramas out in the market – the third installment of the “God’s Not Dead” which opened to just $2.6 million, and “Paul, Apostle of Christ” which in its second week scored $3.5 million. “Pacific Rim Uprising” fell from first to fifth with $9.2 million.
