Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to star in Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful” at Disney Pictures reports Deadline.
Weisz would play Evanorah, the Wicked Witch of the East and older sister to Theodorah (Mila Kunis), the Wicked Witch of the West. James Franco is already locked to play the title character in this story which explores the origins of the three witches and The Wizard.
At last report, Raimi wanted Hilary Swank for the role of Evanorah while the studio preferred Michelle Williams. Now, it seems either both are no longer involved, or they’re actually up for an entirely different role – that of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.
Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire penned the script with shooting aiming to kick off later this year.
Weisz is currently filming Fernando Meirelles’ “360” and will be seen this year in the Daniel Craig-led thriller “Dream House”, the acclaimed play adaptation “The Deep Blue Sea”, and David Hare’s upcoming spy-themed BBC telemovie “Page Eight” with Bill Nighy, Ralph Fiennes and Michael Gambon.
