“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” creator and star Rachel Bloom has confirmed that she has written one of the songs that will be performed by Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist in the upcoming “The Flash” and “Supergirl” musical episode crossovers.
Her number joins a track titled “Runnin’ Home to You” which was penned by Oscar nominees Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and will be performed by Gustin in the episode. Other actors confirmed to have singing parts include Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber, John Barrowman, Jeremy Jordan and Carlos Valdes along with guest star Darren Criss as the villain Music Meister.
Speaking about her involvement, Bloom tells Buzzfeed:
“As soon as I heard that they were doing a musical crossover, I e-mailed Mark Pedowitz who connected me to Greg and Andrew. I immediately offered them my services. As soon as they picked one of my song ideas, I hopped on the phone with my old Robot Chicken boss Tom Root and we brainstormed and, based on that brainstorm, I wrote up the song ‘Super Friends’ I am so excited to contribute more to the upward trend that is musicals in television and film. Music can be one of the most amazing and efficient forms of storytelling and character development. Also, it was really fun to write a comedy song for two superheroes.”
The crossover episode is set to begin on the Monday, March 20th episode of “Supergirl” where it will officially kick off at the end of the episode and lead into the Tuesday, March 21st episode of “The Flash” titled ‘Duet’. Dermott Downs has been tapped to direct the episode.
