Famed Austin-born director Tobe Hooper has died. 74-year-old Hooper passed away on Saturday in Sherman Oaks, California. Specifics of his death are unknown at this time.
Hooper’s most famous directorial efforts include the original “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” from 1974 and “Poltergeist,” two films that scared the daylights out of an entire generation.
Other notable works include the 1979 Stephen King mini-series adaptation “Salem’s Lot” which was re-edited into a film, the more comedic toned 1986 sequel “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2,” cult sci-fi films like “Lifeforce” and “Invaders from Mars,” and films like “Djinn,” “Toolbox Murders” and music videos such as Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself”.
Our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends and many fans.
