In some very sad news, veteran film producer Laura Ziskin died over the weekend at the age of 61 after fighting a seven-year battle with breast cancer reports The Los Angeles Times.
One of the most influential women in recent Hollywood history, Ziskin had a profound impact on what contemporary moviegoers watched at the multiplex. She produced such films as “Pretty Woman,” “Courage Under Fire,” “Fight Club,” “The Thin Red Line,” “As Good As It Gets” and all the Sam Raimi “Spider-Man” films.
Her last project was the upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot. Ziskin founded a nonprofit organisation in 2008 that has to-date raised more than $200 million to fight the disease.
Personally I met her once years ago when she came to Sydney for “Spider-Man” promotional purposes. She was an extremely intelligent, thoughtful and gracious woman and the world and film industry is poorer for losing her.
