Famed celebrity chef and TV travel host Anthony Bourdain was found dead on Friday at the age of 61.
Bourdain’s body was discovered Friday morning in his hotel room at the Le Chambard luxury hotel in Kaysersberg in eastern France. The prosecutor, Christian de Rocquigny du Fayel, says the cause of death was hanging and by all indications was suicide with no foul play suspected.
The United States Embassy in Paris also confirmed his death. Mr. Bourdain had traveled to Strasbourg in France, near the country’s border with Germany, with a television production crew to record an episode of his show “Parts Unknown” on CNN.
Celebrities in the food and entertainment worlds expressed deep shock and disbelief Friday morning. Andrew Zimmern, fellow TV chef and friend of Bourdain’s for over a decade, says he spoke with Bourdain a month ago and the man said he had “never been happier”.
