Zachary Quinto, Chris Zylka and Emma Roberts are set to join James Franco in the Justin Kelly-directed true story drama “Michael”.
The story is based on Benoit Denizet-Lewis’s New York Times Magazine article about Michael Glatze, an anti-gay Christian minister from Wyoming. Bbefore he became a priest, Glatze was not only gay but was so entrenched in queer culture he founded a gay youth magazine.
Franco plays Glatze, Quinto and Zylka will play former boyfriends, while Roberts will play his current girlfriend. Franco, Vince Jolivette, Michael Mendelsohn, Ron Singer and Scott Reed will produce, while Gus van Sant will executive produce.
Describing the project, Kelly says: “This isn’t just a story about an ‘ex-gay’. It’s actually a very relatable story about the power of belief and the desire to belong.”
Added Denizet-Lewis: “I’m excited that everyone involved in this project is intent on telling a story that captures the full breadth of Michael’s unusual life, from the inspiring gay leader I knew when I was young to the Christian pastor he is today.”
