Magnolia Pictures has acquired “Skate Kitchen,” the new film from Sundance award-winning documentary helmer Crystal Moselle (“The WolfPack”). Moselle, Aslihan Unaldi, and Jen Silverman penned the film inspired by a real-life group of New York City female skateboarders.
Rachelle Vinberg plays an introverted 18-year-old skateboarder who discovers a subculture of girls whose lives revolve around skating, and bravely seeks them out. Jaden Smith co-stars and a Summer theatrical release is planned. [Source: Screen]
What Is Life Worth?
Michael Keaton is in negotiations to star in real-life inspirational drama “What Is Life Worth”. David Frankel (“The Devil Wears Prada”) is directing from a 2008 Black List script by Max Borenstein (“Kong: Skull Island”) based on Kenneth Feinberg’s acclaimed memoir.
Keaton would play a powerful DC insider lawyer who was put in charge of the 9/11 Fund. In almost three years of pro bono work on the case, Feinberg fought off the cynicism, bureaucracy and politics associated with administering government funds. The Greatest American Hero
George Wendt (“Cheers”), Gia Sandhu (“The Indian Detective”) and Zenobia Shroff (“The Big Sick”) are set to co-star opposite Hannah Simone in the ABC single-camera comedy pilot “The Greatest American Hero”.
Christine Gernon (“Speechless”) has been tapped to direct the pilot which reimagines the story and now centers it around an Indian-American woman and party girl who is entrusted with a super suit to protect the planet. “Fresh Off the Boat” creators Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan will executive produce. Voltron: Legendary Defender
Netflix has premiered the trailer for the fifth season of its animated series “Voltron Legendary Defender” which teases Team Voltron’s tenuous new relationship with their new ally, disgraced Prince Lotor (A.J. Locascio) who has been the team’s enemy for the past few seasons. Season five is set to launch on Friday, March 2nd.
