HBO Films has acquired the Sundance film “Share” and will premiere it on the premium cabler later this year, marking the second time previously set distributor A24 will partner with HBO on a Sundance title (the other being “Native Son”).
The story follows a teenage girl named Mandy who is the subject of a cellphone video that appears to show a sexual assault. Mandy was drunk when the apparent assault took place, and doesn’t remember what transpired. When the video is widely shared, she must navigate the escalating fallout. [Source: Variety]
Eva Jin (“Sophie’s Revenge”) has been set to direct the female buddy action comedy “Twin Blades” for Cristal Pictures while Chinese actress Ma Li (“Never Say Die”) has also boarded to star. Filming begins Q2 2019 in Hong Kong and mainland China.
Karen McCullah (“Legally Blonde”) recently completed a rewrite of the script. The story follows Zoe, an American tech entrepreneur who relocates her company to China, and a local female bodyguard who is hired to protect her. The odd couple must put aside differences and join forces in order to survive. [Source: Deadline]
Gary Shore (“Dracula Untold”) is attached to direct the long-in-the-works horror tale “Queen Mary” inspired by the hauntings on the famed ocean liner permanently docked at Long Beach. The film will be shot onboard the iconic ship itself which launched in 1934. Brett Tomberlin, Mali Elfman, Nigel Sinclair and Nicholas Ferrall will produce. [Source: Deadline]
We Are Boats
Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to the inspirational drama “We Are Boats” starring Angela Sarafyan and Luke Hemsworth. The film will get a limited theatrical run March 8th followed by a DVD and VOD release early in April.
The story focuses on a woman who navigates through the living world by encountering strangers at the exact moment she needs to, sending their lives on either a better course towards happiness or setting the wheels in motion towards a tragic end. She’s also secretly searching for a loved one that she never had the chance to say goodbye to. [Source: Variety]
A couple of key new TV promo trailers are out today including one for the “Suits” spin-off “Pearson,” one for the return of “The Walking Dead” for the back half of its ninth season, one for the second season of Netflix’s “Captain Underpants” series, and one for the new NBC series “The Enemy Within”.
