The first photo is out of Roberto Benigni as Mastro Geppetto in the upcoming live-action version of “Pinocchio” which has begun filming in Italy under the eye of filmmaker Matteo Garrone. Benigni’s return to the big screen after a seven-year hiatus, the eleven-week shoot will take place in Tuscany, Puglia, and the Lazio region around Rome. [Source: Deadline]
“X-Men: Apocalypse” director Simon Kinberg was recently asked about the status of the Channing Tatum-led “Gambit” film, based on the Marvel Comics title. The question came in the wake of Disney completing its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and Kinberg is at least staying upbeat, telling Variety:
“All of the movies at Fox are being evaluated. I love the idea of Channing playing Gambit. I think we have a great script for it and I think it’s a role he was born to play. It’s a character I grew up loving and I know the fans love. So I suspect, I hope it will happen. There will be a lot of mixing and merging now and I’m all for it and excited to see.”
The first trailer for Peter Segal’s spy comedy “My Spy,” starring Dave Bautista and Ken Jeong, will go online next week via STXEntertainment. Bautista plays a hardened CIA operative who finds himself at the mercy of a precocious nine-year-old girl, having been sent undercover to surveil her family. The film opens later this year. While “Bird Box” was long in the works before “A Quiet Place” opened and became a big hit, this new Netflix original film arriving May 10th doesn’t have that excuse. Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto and John Corbett lead the apocalyptic thriller is set in a world where creatures hunt their prey by sound, and a family must seek refuge in a remote location only to find a sinister cult that wants to exploit the daughter’s heightened senses.
