The Parts You Lose
Mary Elizabeth Winstead has joined the cast of Christopher Cantwell’s “The Parts You Lose” for The H Collective. She joins Aaron Paul and Danny Murphy in the film which Mark Johnson is producing. Darren Lemke penned the script and filming began today in Winnipeg, Canada.
The story follows the unlikely friendship that unfolds between a young deaf boy, Wesley, and a fugitive criminal who takes refuge in an abandoned barn on the family’s rural North Dakota farm. After forming a deep bond, Wesley must decide where to place his allegiances when authorities begin to close in. Winstead will play the boy’s mother Gail. [Source: The H Collective]
Ben is Back
Courtney B. Vance (“The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story”) is set to join Julia Roberts, Lucas Hedges, and Kathryn Newton in the Peter Hedges-directed “Ben is Back” for Color Force, 30WEST and Black Bear Pictures. Filming began today in New York.
Hedges plays the charming yet troubled Ben Burns who returns home to his unsuspecting family one fateful Christmas Eve. Ben’s wary mother, Holly Burns (Roberts) welcomes her beloved son’s return, but soon learns that he is still very much in harm’s way and must do everything in her power to avoid the family’s downfall. The Expansion Project
Brad Peyton is attached as director of “The Expansion Project” for Warner Bros. Pictures. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will produce. Leo Sardarian penned the spec script which follows a rookie female marine gets stranded on a hostile planet during humanity’s space colonization. [Source: The Tracking Board]
Amazon Studios has made a $10 million-plus deal for U.S. rights to the Dan Fogelman-directed “Life, Itself,” a multi-generational love story, weaving together a number of characters whose lives intersect over the course of decades from the streets of New York to the Spanish countryside and back.
Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, Mandy Patinkin, Sergio Peris-Mencheta and Alex Monner star. The film will likely be unveiled next Fall in a prestige festival like Toronto or Telluride. [Source: Deadline]
I Kill Giants
RLJE Films has acquired the U.S. rights to the fantasy-drama “I Kill Giants” with a 2018 release planned. Zoe Saldana, Madison Wolfe, and Imogen Poots lead the cast which is based on the 2008 graphic novel by Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura. Anders Walter directed from a screenplay by Kelly.
Wolfe portrays a teenage girl who chooses to escape the realities of school and a drab family life by retreating into her magical world of titans and giants. With the help of her new friend Sophia (Sydney Wade) and her school therapist (Saldana), Barbara will learn to battle her giants and face her fears – tackling the bullies at school, her sister (Poots), and her difficult home life.
