Empire has released two new official stills from Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” one of which includes the first shot of Simon Pegg’s character Ogden Morrow. In the film, Morrow is the former business partner of Mark Rylance’s OASIS creator James Halliday. The new film is slated to open next month. [Source: Empire]

Melonie Diaz (“Fruitvale Station,” “The Belko Experiment”) has scored one of the lead roles in the CW’s “Charmed” reboot pilot. Diaz will play Mel, one of the three witch sisters and an outspoken activist who loses her way in the wake of family tragedy. [Source: Variety]

“Kong: Skull Island” and “Godzilla” scribe Max Borenstein will pen a rewrite of Studio 8’s original sci-fi thriller “Hypnotic,” taking over from “Sin City” filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.

Borenstein will work with Rodriguez who remains attached to direct and produce the project which is dubbed a ‘grounded cop thriller with sci-fi elements’ and a potential franchise launcher. [Source: Heat Vision]

The Artist’s Wife
Avan Jogia (“Son of Shaft,” “The New Romantic”) will join Bruce Dern, Lena Olin, and Juliet Rylance in Tom Dolby’s “The Artist’s Wife” which he helms from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nicole Brending and Abdi Nazemian.

Olin plays the wife of a famed artist who lives in his shadow. When he is diagnosed with dementia, she shields his illness from the art community and tries to help him reconnect with his daughter and grandson. [Source: Deadline]

Second Act
STXfilms has set a November 21st release date for the romantic comedy “Second Act” starring Jennifer Lopez, Milo Ventimiglia, Leah Remini, Vanessa Hudgens and and Treat Williams.

Lopez plays a big-box store employee who reinvents her life and her lifestyle, she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as a college degree. Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Justin Zackham penned the script. [Source: STXFilms]
