The National Society of Film Critics announced their 2019 award winners Saturday afternoon and Chloe Zhao’s “The Rider” took home the best picture title. “Roma” won best foreign-language and cinematography, Ethan Hawke and Olivia Colman took the best acting nods, Steven Yeun and Regina King the best supporting acting nods, “Minding the Gap” best doco, and “The Death of Stalin” best script. Leonardo Nam (“Westworld”) has joined the DC Universe series “Swamp Thing” in a recurring role as the character Harlan Edwards, described as a gay CDC specialist who is second-in-command to the show’s female lead Abby (Crystal Reed). The passionate love story follows a man and a woman who meet in the ruins of post-war Poland. With vastly different backgrounds and temperaments, they are fatefully mismatched and yet nearly enslaved to each other.
James Wan’s “Aquaman” has reportedly topped Chris Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” to become the highest-grossing film based on a DC Comics title ever at the international box office. Netflix’s popular thriller “Bird Box” boasts a musical score from Nine Inch Nails duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. While the soundtrack album is currently out in stories, the pair have just released a thirteen-minute track that didn’t make it into the final film.
